Strawberries and Taiko

It's been one of those weeks at work where one of the managers displayed a simly amazing inability to plan anything. Thus, I was given many suprise tasks and grumbled at by people who told me that I should have given them the advance notice that I didn't get. It was Diversity Week last week, for those who work Day Jobs in businesses that keep track of such things. The highlight was the last-minute, "oh, get lunch for 8 today"...for the Triangle Taiko Japanese drum folks. He also wanted me to feed them in the lobby...a busy lobby about the size of a modest living room that already had a table with posters and whatnot on it...talk about crowded and tacky. Sheesh. So I said to heck with that and brought 'em up to a conference room, which means they were visitors inside the building, which means that somebody had to escort them and everyone else was too busy. So, I got a bonus hour of chatting with the group while ferrying them ice water (aforementioned manager decided that two 2-liter sodas were just fine for 9 people who had just performed for 30 minutes in 90 degree weather. Just wow.). All in all, a surprisingly good day there. Very nice group, although I do wonder what revenge was exacted on the guy who convinced another member to eat the seeds out of the pepper...

I think I had forgotten how spontaneously I do things when left to my own devices. Things usually work out, most of what needs to be done has been considered in advance, but the execution is pretty on-the-fly. It's one of those things that drives my husband wild, so he's in charge of The Plan on most things. Otherwise it's a serious test of his patience and nerve. So far I've gotten some nice shirts, tried to buy rodents for the snakes (open at 10 a.m.? you must be kidding), had the oil changed (rather spontaneously), and bought groceries. I also found the ginger Altoids that Andreas has been in a minor cross-country quest for. :D Oh, and as an added bonus some of the strawberries were ripe. And heavily guarded by some serious spider web.

Looks like it's officially Too Hot to Be Out, so maybe I'll do some writing. Maybe I'll take a nap. Maybe I'll go back out and get some mousecicles now that the store is open.

Currently Reading: Brilliance of the Moon by Lian Hearn

Recommend: Lolita by Vladimir Nabakov. I reallly can't believe that I waited this long to read it.

Books read this year: 17??
