Another beautiful day here in northern Iceland.

Our backhoe came today, so we spent the whole morning filling the trenches at Reynistadur, although we had to run around photographing them again. We had to do it a second time because the first time we did it, the camera didn“t have any film. We had a miscommunication during the camera pass off, and I thought it had film, but didn“t take enough shots to realize that it didn“t. Ah well, all“s well that ends well.

After the backhoe put the dirt into the trenches, we manually put the sod back on top, then stomped it in and raked a little more into the seams. We did leave one trench open because its complex nature requires further work in profiling, which is under way.

In the afternoon we shifted operations over to Getagerši and had the backhoe open eight new trenches. Only one hit a turf wall, with the others either being full of glacial material or a complex nature of peat, tephra and other organic materials (but apparently non-cultural and therefore not of interest to us).

Overall, we are starting to split up into smaller groups and going to more and more farms, so it will soon get a lot more complicated to keep people, cars and gear straight. But the schedule's holding so we have hope that things will continue to work out as planned.

We stayed up late last night with planning trenches and operations for today and near future, not getting home until 2:00 am, so early to bed tonight in order to be able to function properly tomorrow.
