Happy Persian New Year!

I'm a day late, since it was yesterday (at 12:15 am, I believe, to be exact), but still.

Happy Persian New Year to everyone! Any old excuse, right?

In our house we lay out a "sofret haftsein" (basically means "7 S's") which is very pretty, I think. My wife spends a bit of time putting it together with items that fit the bill, like eggs, fish, sumac, coins, and hyacinths.

As a mongrel American, I have no real traditions. Christmas and Easter are religious, though X-mas has become cultural as well, I think. July 4th is a big national day, but the rest are often excuses to buy cards and take off work. Of course, Halloween is always fun.

It's nice to be a part of this tradition.
