Plain Banter
. . . lies about science fiction, and everything else.

When the writer becomes the center of his attention, he becomes a nudnik. And a nudnik who believes he's profound is even worse than just a plain nudnik. -- Isaac Bashevis Singer

Ride On The Peace Train

I see this news story that says Yusuf Islam, the singer formerly known as Cat Stevens, is going to receive some sort of "peace prize" from an outfit headed by former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev. Funny, but I remember when the ayatollahs called a fatwa on Salmon Rushdie for writing the novel, The Satanic Verses, and Mr. Islam went on record supporting the fatwa, sanctioning murder because he was offended by a piece of fiction. Perhaps Mr. Islam has mellowed out some and inhaled a bit of that "banapple gas" he used to sing about. I certainly hope he's softened his stance on killing creative artists. He used to be one, you know.

Perhaps the prize is an attempt to appease Mr. Islam, for getting kicked off an airline flight a few months back because his name came up on the "do not fly" list. Yusuf...Islam...who would have thought?

Oh, baby, baby it's a wild world.
