Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Swopped

BH: 1229

Wrote my post mortem report and sent it, started sewing a chemise, answered more e-mail, started setting up labels for our Yule newsletter

Rejection from Weird Tales for “A Father’s Blessing”, citing problems that don’t actually appear in the story. Seriously. I swear there’s nothing involving the protag going insane/was dreaming. I don’t think the story could even be mis-read that way. Oh well. They probably swopped stories somewhere along the line—but if they’d loved “AFB”, they would have bought it. I need to go through the shorts that have returned and figure out what needs to go out. And possibly pull whatever’s been at Speculon since the spring, because they haven’t answered several queries.

I‘m trying to think of something fun (and maybe a little romantic) to do on Friday night when Ken gets home. The clicher is that we’re trying to not spend much money right now, so dinner out is, well, out. He suggested a movie, like “Harry Potter”, because it’s something we’ll definitely see in the theatres, but I pointed out that we can see it as a mantinee on Sunday or over his holiday break (because you know it’ll still be playing). So, suggestions are welcome. Perhaps renting a movie and a picnic in the living room? But what movie, and what food for the picnic (keeping in mind that there’s no way on earth I’m frying chicken or anything like that)? It’s too dark/chilly for the beach or a bike ride. Suggestions, please!

I just learned that a friend of mine was on Jeopardy; the shows will air 24-28 March. He isn’t saying how much he won or anything, so it’ll be especially fun to watch.
