Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

The subtext in Wonder Woman

ALNM: 639

Dang, it almost felt like my birthday this afternoon! Three packages for me! One was stamps (it’s worth a buck to me to order them online rather than stand in line at the PO), one was a book my friend Melusine had said she’d send me (A Wicked Pack of Cards: The Origins of the Occult Tarot)—thank you, dearheart!—and one was the weaving book I ordered. Whee.

Well, Ken’s off this afternoon to Oregon for a quick trip (returning Tuesday evening). I was trying to figure out if I could get enough done to go with him, but then I discovered a new Sage job awaiting me. I _could_ still get it done in time, but it would end up being another rush job, and I don’t want to do that to my shoulder again, or to potentially not to a good job on the journal. (Although the feedback I received on the rush journal was that I did an almost perfect job, so there.) And I have other stuff that needs to be done, and I really and truly don’t want to get so behind again. (I’m still behind on e-mail, but it’s getting better.) Not to mention getting some serious work done on ALNM. And getting a few more stories in the mail.

By the same token, I’ve also fired off an e-mail inviting various local folks over tomorrow for an impromptu, casual open-house-type-thing. Swimming, sewing, game playing, lounging.

Saw Ken off, and did a couple of hours of copy editing and answering e-mail. Started to watch a movie but decided it was drek. Now I’m watching a show about the history of comic books, which is far more interesting than I expected. I was just going to watch it to see Neil Gaiman. Now I know that Wonder Woman’s creator was poly and there was a lot of S&M subtext in the comic. Hmmmm…! Anyway, while watching it I finished the embroidery on the second cushion. Now to couch around the edges of the trees, and then sew it together, and it’s done. Huzzah.

I’d hoped to do more on ALNM, but the upcoming scene is a sex scene, and I wasn’t in the proper frame of mind for it (missing Ken and all). Tomorrow, though. I know what’s going to happen, and that helps. And I did write.

Time to grab Snert and curl up in bed with him and Charlie the cat and Barbara Hambly’s Sisters of the Raven.
