Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Spoiled

Words Written: AETW: 1571

Slow day. Overcast. Ten hours of sleep and still tired. VH-1 Classics persists in playing Two for Tuesday bands that I don’t like. Internet being wonky again. (Ken plans to run the cable upstairs in the next few days. Messy, crawl-around-the attic work.) It’s not being a bad day, just a slow one.

Ken has to run up to Santa Barbara to return the equipment he was working on over the weekend, and we considered going together and then going to the zoo (I haven’t visited the otters in forever, but with the drizzliness and all, it’s best if I stay home and work.

It’s weird that yesterday was Valentine’s Day. We didn’t even get around to getting each other cards. We went out for a late lunch to Olive Garden on Sunday after we talked (it’s a running joke with us that if we have to have a serious talk, we go to Olive Garden. We haven’t actually done it in years—it’s a holdover from previous things—but it’s still a joke with us), and called that our Valentine’s meal.

It doesn’t matter, really. We don’t need a special day to celebrate that we love each other. I’m not against VDay, mind you—I’m all for any type of celebration, big or small, private or party, whoo!—it’s just that with all the recent upheavals and weirdnesses for us, it just became a non-issue.

Things are definitely feeling better. AETW has started rolling again. Ken has some various work-related projects in the works. I confess it’s nice having him around again for a bit. I’ve gotten so spoiled. :-)

Currently Reading: Women Writing Science Fiction As Men anthology, for the workshop

Lately Listened To: Kate Bush, This Woman’s Work, Vol. I (yes, again. I sometimes get stuck on certain albums. For some reason, ‘though I don’t know the words yet, “The Handsome Cabin Boy” keeps getting stuck in my head, and now it feels, musically, like the right song for AETW’s current scenes. If that makes any sense.)

Recently Watched: “Medium” (which continues to blow me away)
