Oh what a relief it is to have finally decided what to do about the new job offer: take it.

I have been talking to a lot of people today, some of whom did not have nice things to say about others. The whole problem started when the one guy I work for copied a bunch of others on his letter of recommendation. This touched off a cascade of people stopping by my cubicle with bigger or smaller carrots and other enticements.

It's good to feel wanted, but why were none of these people pro-active in keeping me (happy) if they like my work so much? I have no hard feelings, but also no particular loyalty, so it's time to try out some new challenges and meet some new folks over in another division here at CSUN.

On Monday I spoke again with the dean whom I'll be working for (her name's Joyce) regarding office space, college web server platforms, my desktop system, and playing at archaeology in the summer.

Her responses (in order): private hard door office with window; if I can justify a move to some flavor of Unix from Windows then go for it; whatever I want's okay (hello iMac!); be sure all your work's done, and here, take this laptop with you to stay in touch!

Oh, she also asked me if I could fly to New Orleans for a conference on the 15th...
