It is good to have Greg home from WorldCon. He had a great time and finally got to meet in person a lot of wonderful people. I'm envious, but thought that it would set a bad precedent for teacher to cut out early on the Friday of the first week of classes. But it was a great weekend for Greg, who has been in writer-mode ever since.

I accomplished a lot of teacher work over the weekend, but during this week, my teaching has taken second place to the mundane bureaucracy of overrides and course schedules and loonies. Yes, the disturbed student from last semester has scared a young woman in another instructor's astronomy class to the point where security and an assistant dean were going to show up to class tonight. Another fear - this young man has signed up for a dancing class, too.

And today I was indirectly called incompetent by, of all things, an academic advisor. A student of mine who was incorrectly advised that astronomy labs were required with the lecture was told, "she doesn't know what she's talking about," when my student repeated my statement that the lab wasn't required. I think that the advisors should at least be literate enough to read the fucking catalog.

And another student at ASU refused to leave an add/drop slip for me, instead leaving it for my male officemate. You see, the student was adamant that the astronomy lab coordinator had to be male, despite what the office receptionist said. Nice, huh?

But here's the result of the most important thing that happened today:

49ers         16
NY Giants 13

Finally, it's football season!!!!!
