The cicadas are hissing loudly.

A child receives burns to her feet while running barefoot from her exploding apartment.
Sweat soaks through clothes walking to the car.
On the sidewalk fries an egg, its beauty limited because the concrete is not non-stick.
Patriotic crowds brave the line at Ted's, knowing that the 40 minutes in line in this transplant from Buffalo, NY saves them from the blast furnace outside.

Many thanks to the air-conditioner.
Many thanks to cool, clear water.

Too hot to rhyme or scan.
Oh, July, please end soon.
Where is sweet October?
