You Can Sleep While I Drive.

=================================================

Location: Work.
The Horror: Our flight leaves at 6:30 AM.
Listening: "You Can Sleep While I Drive" ~ Melissa Etheridge & Jewel.

This will likely be the last entry made before we leave for Michigan. We were up in LA at Dan and Shanti's until fairly late last night, catching the tail end of Enterprise, all of SU2 (unfortunately) and South Park. Grabbed some clothes and books that I had forgotten at Williams' place. He recently resigned from his job at a television production studio. His boss, who collects Olivia de Berardinis' artwork, was renovating the office and decided to give Chris three of her prints--which he then gave to me. When he presented them to me, I teared up. They're beautiful. I've always loved Olivia's work, but have never been able to afford one print let alone three. One of the sweetest gifts I've ever received, and I'm hunting around for a way to properly thank Chris.

My Olivia prints will have good company on the walls. The Bruno pieces that Peter commissioned from Chris Baldwin arrived this afternoon. Actually holding the original of a comic-art piece in one's hands is a remarkable experience--every tiny detail is somehow magnified and you have a new appreciation for just how much time went into those sections of cross-hatching you usually don't notice. Chris did a beautiful job.

Trying not to stress, but still doing the usual last-minute mad dash for dry cleaning, laundry, etc. Still haven't completely figured out what I'm wearing to the wedding. Still haven't finished my packing list. Still haven't figured out whether it would be better to drive or take a shuttle to the airport. Eep. The goal is to run errands after work, then pack and try to get as much sleep as possible before we have to leave for the airport around 3:30. We have a one hour layover in Nashville mid-afternoon and won't be getting into Detroit until 5:00 PM CST--then dinner with the family at 7:00. Mr. Toad ain't got nothing on us.

Writing-Wise

Writing-wise, I actually mulled over a few ideas last night, while trying not to watch SU2, and I think one or two might actually be viable for short stories. While I've never been a big sf/fantasy fan (sorry Jenn), I do enjoy magic realism, which seems to be a close cousin to speculative fiction at times (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). So I'll be sketching outlines for these over the weekend, when/if I have a free moment or two between weddings, lunches, pub dinners, and meeting multitudes of new people. I'm putting the poetry aside for a moment, as I'm not done reading Turco's Book Of Forms yet, and I'm hoping that working on some prose will jump-start the poetry in turn. I'll post anything I'm particularly proud of, but I'm anticipating several weeks or months of effort to get back into the groove. It's been far too long.
